Serena, Carter and Nate: Last episode, we learned that Carter was in debt and that hne was hunted by the Buckley's because he broke Bree's cousins heart. Well, Serena tries to get him free by conspiring with Nate. Nate, genius he is, already has a plan: He knows that Bree's cousin plays poker with high stakes and thinks Serena can win him back in a little poker game. Of course, Serena asks what's in for him, and he tells her he wants to destroy the campaign of his cousin Trip who wants to become a senator (or something). Of course, Serene loses, even when Nate throws in a oicture of Trip with a bong. It then turns out that the picture is fake and Nate wanted the cousin to publish the fake picture. Serena overhears him talking to his grandfather about that and decides to warn the Buckleys and gets Carter back. But, oh surprise, Carter doesn't want her anymore because he eants to be a man and own up for his faults. He leaves her. I really didn't like this storyline, because a) Nate wouldn't come up with such a plan and b) Carter wanted Serena for five episodes and now he just leaves. Great. Just great.
The rest: Everything ese in this episode revolved around theFreshman Toast of NYU. Blair wanted it, Vanessa wanted it and Olivia was supposed to do it. An NYU alumn originally decided that he wanted Olivia to do it, but Vanessa was the runner-up. Olivia didn't want to go, but when
Dan invited her to meet his parents there, she said yes. Vanessa decided to convince Dan that Olivia was nervous about meeting the parents and that he should do a quiet little dinner instead. She then told Olivia that Dan's parents didn't like movie stars and hence he didn't want to take her. Hold on for a moment: Vanessa, or moral compass, the one girl who always thought the Upper East Side was evil, was the most manipulating person in this episode. She lied to everyone: Her best friend, her roommate, her mother. And she's supposed to be the "good girl". Well, she isn't anymore. It was mainly because she wanted her hippie mother to believe she was right to go to college (the mother didn't belive in colleges). Well, but when she got Olivia out of the way, she still had Blair. Originally not on the list at all, she decided to play her usual games and convinced the alumn by presenting him Chuck on a silver plate. She told him that they were playing their usual game and the alumn needed a kiss for a scavenger hunt. Little peck on the lips. That was it. Fortunately. She then got the Freshman toast, but made the mistake of telling Vanessa, hwo again - evil little ... she is in this episode - tries to get it back. She hides a microphone in her purse, provocates Blair who embarasses herself and worse: Chuck hears that she has used him. But in the end, Vanessa doesn't get the toast either (and yells at her mom) because Olivia attends the event and is eventually the one to make the toast. And well, that'S it: Vanessa has lied ot her mom, Blair has hurt Chuck who isn't ready to forgive her yet (although"He has kissed a guy before" (Nate???)) and in the last shot they sit together in the coffee shop.
All in all, this was a solid episode with a lot of drama. I liked how the stories all overlapped and how you never knew who would get the toast. I didn't like the Serena-Carter story and I kinda thought that the motivation for Blair and Vanessa should have been something else than a toast. But other than that: Good episode. Oh, and can't wait for Chuck and Blair fighting and reconciling again.
Best Moment: Funny: Lily vs. Vanessa's mom. Hilarious. Sad: Chuck and Blair at his door. They have so much tension and chemistry. Awesome
Weirdest Moment: Blair and Vanessa in the coffe shop. On the same table. Very weird.
Favourite Quote:
Blair: "I messed up, didn't I."
Lily: "Yes. Yes you really did."
Blair: "Where'd you learn to give a pep talk, Guantanamo?"
Or:
Blair: "Love me?"
