My new obsession: Fringe
I probably won't watch season 1 and 2 in English again for some time, as I'm about to start an internship, but I'll try to recap it this season. I'm really intrigued about how this whole "other universe" thing will go down and how and when the real Olivia will return.
My show count is now up to an even ten, so we'll see how I cope.
EDIT: Okay, who was I kidding, of course I had to watch season 1 & 2 again. I realized two things: One, I have seen every episode of Fringe before, so that was good. Two, I think I've missed a lot. That's the problem with a) watching too many shows, b) watching some of them in German and c) having to wait one week for it to return. With a show that relies so much on continuity, it's better to watch them back to back. There's so much from the first season I have already forgotten, but I also realized that there are still so many questions still left unanswered.
What exactly did William Bell do on the other side?
What is his relationship to Nina Sharp?
What is Broyles and nina's relationship?
Why is Peter so important to Nina? (I'm speculating he's her son or something)
Who is Sam Weiss?
How did that lab assistent die?
Why did Walter ask Bell to remove his brain?
And so on...
I really can't wait for the new season. It's going to be great.

I'm in love with "Castle"!
Castle has premiered in Germany last week and I've read some reviews and I thought that I might like it. And guess what, I did.

- The Set-Up: I love books, especially crime books and I've always been interested in how authors might get their ideas. And I've always been worried that criminals might use that books for crimes, so the whole set-up sounded really interesting. It's a little bit like CSI, a little bit like Bones and that's why I like it.
- The cases: I really like the different murder cases and the way Castle and Becket deal with them. They are always very emotional, dramatic and a little complicated so you don't know who did it right away.
- New York: Do I really have to say anything? A show set in New York. That's a definite plus.
- The humor: As dramatic and tantalizing it can get, it's also pretty funny. I like Becket and Castle's exchanges and Castle's one-liners. Esposito and Ryan are also very amusing.
- Castle: Castle is a little arrogant and cocky, but also a very warm man and funny. He's pretty smart and I like how he comes up with these stories how the murder could have happened. He's not bad on the eyes either :)
- Castle's family: Castle's family just great. First of all, I like that a cop/writer actually has a family. Most cops are single guys or women in their 30s/40s and they neither have parents nor kids. But Castle has a fabulous mother, an actress who is fun and a good counter balance to the often a little melancholic castle. He also has a daughter who is just a normal child. No drugs, no excessive lifestyle, no bad boyfriends. She's a good students and it's actually a change that a kid is normal and friendly as most kids on shows are just a mess. I also love those moments Castle has with his daughter who is sometimes a parent to him and sometimes he's a parent to her.
- Becket: She's strong and confident and she always seems to be in control. She also has moments where she's softer and you can see that she has a past. I love that she's not weeping on Castle's shoulder every chance she gets, but is the strong one and a little hard-core. She can also be funny.
- Castle and Becket: Yeah, I know I'm not very original but I really like potential romance in a show. Unresolved sexual tension at its best. Castle and Becket would actually make a pretty good couple and I can't wait if/when they get together. Yes, I know they're a little bit like Booth and Brennan on Bones but that's a good thing. Love their chemistry.

Nerds and even more nerds.... "The Big Bang Theory" and "Chuck"
First up: The Big Bang Theory, a half-hour comedy I discovered on German TV (And discovered is the right word here because it is/was on Saturday afternoons). I watched the first two episodes on German TV and then, when I was bored one afternoon, I switched to English and watched the whole show in one week. And now I love it!

It's quirky, funny and smart. It's science, comedy and romance. It's pretty damn great.
Some reasons I like the show:
- It's nerdy: As I study Mathematic, I'm constantly surrounded by nerds (let's face it, that's what Sheldon, Raj, Koothrapali and Lennard are) and I can relate to Penny so much. Okay, I admit: Maybe I'm sometimes a little bit like the guys, too ;). And I love that the science is pretty accurate.
- It's funny: The main reason I love it: It's just funny as hell. More than once I have been giggling for minutes especially when Sheldon has one of his very weird moments. Bazinga!
- It's character-driven: Leonard is sarcastic but sweet. Sheldon is crazy but you somehow like him anyway. Raj is shy but has sarcastic moments. Wolowitz is a little creepy, but also nice. And Penny is a little ditzy but lovable. All of them are very funny and their interaction is just great.
- It's a little bit romantic: Leonard and Penny are really sweet together and although it took me some time to get used to their relationship as it lacks a little bit the usual drama, I really like it now.
There's more of course, but I still got the other show I recently "adopted": Chuck. One thing it has in common with The Big Bang Theory is of course that it's also pretty nerdy. Its main character Chuck works in the Nerd Herd of a Buy More and is a little geeky at times, but very sweet. His colleagues on the other hand are geeky most of the times.

Some reasons I love it:
- The plot: Chuck stumbles in the spy world by accident and I love the whole idea of an intersect in his head. He flashes on things and has government secrets in his head and he reacts exactly the way everyone would react: He wants it out of there. But then he gets sucked into the spy world and begins to enjoy it. It's a very well-plotted story and also very interesting to see the spy world by someone who just stumbles into it and doesn't have everything under control.
- The characters: Chuck is lovable, nerdy, smart and capable of great things. Then there's Sarah who is beautiful, strong and in control. Casey is tough and it's so funny that he grumbles all the time and doesn't want to connect with Chuck. Those three are the core and it's great to see them connect. Then there's Chuck's family and friends: Morgan, his best friend who's just a little weird but lovable, Chuck's sister Ellie who is always worried about her little brother's future and her husband Captain Awesome who is just awesome. They are clueless about his spy life, but have their own worries. And then there's the Buy More crew who is funny, nerdy and very weird.
- The humor, drama and romance: It's comedy and drama, it's romance and crime solving. Just a very cool mixture.
- Sarah and Chuck: They are a perfect couple and the nerd and the pretty girl just fit. She doesn't want to get too close as he's a civilist; he's hopeless in love with her. I love their pining for one another and their struggle is just great.
That was a very long post. Let's hope I'm not falling in love with another show soon or I won't have time for my real life ;)

It's legen...wait for it...dary!
Remember, when i was looking for a new addiction a few months ago (LINK) because I thought Scrubs was going to an end? Well, I started to watch Bones back then, because I really wanted another drama and I thought I would like it. I immediately loved it and can't wait for the fifth season. (Read review HERE) So there I was, having four shows for next year: House, Grey's Anatomy, Private Practice and Bones. I was pretty happy with that, because I also have Desperate Housewives, Fringe, Tudor's and Reaper in German that I watch regularily.
Well, then May came and on came the episode 7 of Gossip Girl's first season on German TV. And that means: Chuck and Blair, limo sex. Do I have to say more? (Read also HERE) End of story: I got addicted to that, too. Okay, we're down to five shows I watch on American TV plus my three shows on German TV.
Of course, Scrubs got renewed, which means I will have to watch it (It's Scrubs, even if they change it, I HAVE to watch it), bringing my score to 6 and 4.
And now this: How I met your mother. We reached an 11. 7 on American TV, 4 on German TV (although I think, Fringe and Reaper are almost done with their first seasons here and I consider switching to English then. OMFG. That would mean 9 and 2)
It's basically my fellow students fault, I have now seven shows to cover. As with Bones, I always suspected I might really like it, but kept away from it because right now I'm absolutely swamped with work. But he was watching it and so, I somehow did, too. Now I'm hooked and can't get unhooked. There's so much stuff I like about it:
- It's a comedy! Okay, that one is pretty obvious, but apart from Scrubs, I had no new comedy show to watch. Well, that's over and now I can laugh again ;) It's sooo damn funny, I laughed out loud several times and I can only remember that kind of fun from Friends and Scrubs. Which brings me to my next point:
- It's like Friends (and I love Friends): Let's face it: Five friends in New York looking for love, hanging out at one place all the time (appartment or bar vs. appartment or coffee house) and have not only frienship in mind: It's soo Friends, but is still unique. Not like all those 90's rip-offs but really unique and clever. Because:
- It has a twist: To tell the story from Ted's perspective, 30 years later makes it very interesting and not revealing the mother is just very teasing. I like how he can comment on the people's actions and show what happened later. This creates interesting twists and turns. One of the big ones being: "Aunt" Robin, when we were lead to believe she could be the mother.
- It's in New York: Insert argumentation from Gossip Girl here. I can't resist New York.
- It's well written: It's funny, clever and I love that tehy are very keen on getting the continuity right. It's interesting to see, which details become important later (the yellow umbrella for example) and knwo that they already hinted that several seasons ago.
- Its characters are awesome: Perfect characters, perfect casting. I literally like all of them, not even one better than the others. I initially had a little grudge against Robin, but that passed, once she and Ted split up. They're just not that great as a couple, but great as friends.
- Its romance: Marshall and Lilly, Ted and Robin, Ted and Stella (amazing guest-starring by Sarah Chalke, love her) They are really good at bringing love stories in a comedy, which not everyone can do right, but tehy nail it. Marshall and Lilly are such a cute, real couple and Ted's pursuit of love is always very sweet and romantic.
- Barney and Robin: I think I don't have to mention, that once again, a couple got me even more hooked on a show than I was before: In HIMYM, it's Barney and Robin. They're perfect for each other and I can't resist an unconventional love story (Like Chuck and Blair, by the way) Womanizer Barney develops feelings for Robin, who's a little bit cold herself, but they get each other. They're just soo cute together (Season 3, epsiode 16, when she was crying was my favourite moment) anf I hope they end up with each other, in their own, unique way. Meaning no kids. Maybe.
- The actors: Neil Patrick Harris might be one of my new favourite actors now. He's adorable and perfect as Barney. The character is amazing, but NPH brings him to life, delievers this quirkyness and those jokes. Awesome. And of course Cobie Smulders, Alyson Hannigan and the other two are very good, too. Talented bunch.
Well, that's pretty much it for now, I still have to study. It's going to be a stressy new TV season, but I will love it. And I even think about watching Glee ;) Night.

XOXO, Gossip Girl

Consequently, I watched the whole two seasons in the last five days and it's now one of my new favourite shows and a guilty pleasure. It reminded me very much of "The OC" (just found out that one of the creators is the creator of OC, so it figures), and it's actually basically the same setting: rich teens and their problems. And as Gossip Girl is set in New York (only my favourite city ever), I love it even more. Cuz I went to New York last summer, I recognize streets and then remember how I was walking along those streets and get all giddy.
As always, I'll just post a list of reasons I love this show, maybe get someone else as excited about Gossip Girl as I am right now:
- The concept: It's the first show that integrates our modern communication media (blogs and cell phones) successfully. And as we all secretly love gossip, it's great if we can see how it affects everyone. I also like the Upper East Side - Brooklyn tension, the whole Serena-Dan coupling is Cinderella all over again (the other way round)
- The drama: Who can resist a good drama? And of course the many, many relationships of our main characters. There are happy and funny moments, but mainly, there are vendettas and intrigues. Most of all, I like that every time you think you know what's going to happen, they turn it round in the last two minutes.
- The Characters: I love that it is mainly an ensemble show and everyone has their moments. The characters are not just one-dimensional, but very layered, especially Blair and Chuck. When you think you know a character, he does something out of character and you have to adjust your view.
- The design: The newest clothes, the most expensive accessoires, the nicest appartments and of course the inevitable limo. It's New York's High Society and it's just great to see their life-style.
- The setting: As already mentioned, I just love New York and so I love to see as much of the city as possible. This show is ideal, as a lot of the action is happening outside, in Central Park, on fifth avenue or even on Times Square.
- The actors: They're very talented, especially the actors of Chuck and Blair, of course. Although most of them are actually older than their characters (which I hate), they succeed in portraying teenagers. I was especially surprised that the actress of Jenny is actually as old as her character and she's really amazing.
- Lily & Rufus: I love that there's not only a story about the teenagers, but also about the grown-ups. Lily and Rufus belong together and they have been on and off for over 20 years and even have a child together. They mirror Dan & Serena's story which is really amazing, as I love their relationship, too.
- Chuck & Blair: How do I even beginn to describe their hotness? They're perfect for each other. She know him better than anyone else and - what's even more important - and can accept who he is. They're both kinda mean and he has many flaws, but he loves her very much. He even loves her enough to let her go. Eventually, they can't keep away from each other although Blair likes other guys (Nate, Markus) and Chuck tries to find his happiness with different women every night. Plus, the actors are amazing.
Well, that'S it for now, but I could talk for hours about this, especialyl about my new ship, hehe. I'm very excited to see, what will happen in season 3, when they're all going to college. Well, most of them. Let's see if Rufus and Lily actually get married, if Serena finds her father, how Jenny is as the new Queen Bee, if Chuck and Blair can be a real couple (but I hope there will be some drama, too) and what happens to Nate and Vanessa.

My new addiction: Bones
I've been suspecting for some time that I might like it, because I have seen some episodes on German TV and loved the cases and read (coincidentally) some spoilers which made me think that there might be a shippable couple there. And I definetly can't resist a show that has a good couple.
So, I've watched the first few episodes and immediately got hooked. I have some time right now because it's only the beginning of the semester and so I've watched every episode there is, including the season finale and I absolutely loved it. I even bought the first and second season on DVD.
Although I suspected I might like it, I had no idea how much I would love it. And there are so many reasons I love it:
- The cases: I mean, come on: Does it get any more creative than that? They are creepy, interesting, gross and just wonderful and I love every single one, especially the one with the Gravedigger, Epps or Brennan's father. Ah, screw it, they're all great.
- The characters: I'll talk about Booth and Brennan in a minute, but they're definetly not the only characters worth mentioning: The "Squints" are generally pretty genius and very funny. Angela, Hodgins, Zack and Cam are just one perfect team and I was so sad to see Zack go (Especially because of his wonderful friendship with Hodgins). I also just love Hodgins and Angela as a couple and I hope they'll be together again in season 5.
- The writing: It's just a very well-balanced show: A little bit of comedy, a little bit of drama, a hint of romance; perfect. I sometimes laugh so hard and then at other times I'm sooo anxious because it has its thrilling moments (Gravedigger!)
- Brennan: She really reminds me of House sometimes: rational, logical, very smart, a little bit arrogant, sometimes a little unemotional but there are feelings under the surface. I don't know what it was, but I didn't like her looks back when I watched it on German TV, but now I really like her, especially her interaction with Booth.
- Booth: Apart from the fact that David Boreanaz is incredibly hot, I love his character: Sweet, a little bit cocky, very protective of Brennan, street-smart. He is the perfect counterpart and match for Bones and they're a good team.
- Brennan and Booth, the relationship: OMG, how could I have missed this for so long? This relationship has absolutely everything I want from a ship. It's a lot like House and Cuddy, only here it's pretty clear that they will end up together (which I don't see on House, yet) The sexual tension is almost palpable and because Brennan is a little bit unemotional, every touch they share is special (The way they hug...) Oooh, I can't wait for them to come closer (but we'll have to wait because of the amnesya - and the summer hiatus).
Well, there's of course more, but I have to go back to studying now. I just hope the fifth season si going to be as great as the last four seasons (and it has been renewed for two seasons, so let's see how that plays out). Looking forward to new cases and new Brennan and Booth.

I need a new addiction!
Let's look at the shows I'm currently watching only in German:
- Desperate Housewives (But that's definetly an addiction already, just decided to watch it in German because that's one thing I can look forward to on German TV)
- The Tudor's: Watchted all German episodes (Season 1 and 2)
- Reaper: Watched the first episodes (Just started airing in Germany and I love it)
- Fringe: Same as Reaper, kinda creepy but great
- Gossip Girl: Same as Reaper, but it's not that interesting yet
And there are some shows I have only watched some episodes in German, but I'm considering them as my new favourite show:
- Bones: Watched some episodes and it seems very interesting. And from all the spoiler-sites, I've come to notice that there's definetly a "shippable" couple
- Psych: Watched the pilot and loved it, also very funny
- How I met your mother: Have seen some episode, but I'm not sure yet, although it's a comedy and I really need one
- Til Death: Watched most episodes of season 1 and liked it, but I'm not sure yet
I think I really want one comedy and one drama. I also think that I will definetly keep watching the Tudor's, Fringe and Reaper in German for some time before I consider watching them in English. I really don't know about Gossip Girl, but I just keep watching for some time. And the shows I doin't regularily watch in German? Well, I think I will watch the pilots and the first episodes and then reconsider.... Wait and see.
