Couples Countdown Nr.1

Monica & Chandler
(Friends)

Current status: Married, with twins Jack and Erica
The Beginning: Monica and Chandler have been best friends for some time. When Monica's brother Ross gets married in London and a lady asks if Monica is Ross's mother, she's very depressed and Chandler and she sleep with each other.
Course of the Relationship: For some time, Chandler and Monica sleep with each other, just for fun and because they realize that they're attracted to each other. Little by little, their friends discover their secret and bothof them realize that they love each other. They almost get married in Las Vegas, but after they see Ross and Rachel really get married they decide to move in together first. Because Chandler is afraid of commitment, Monica proposes and they get married one year later. They try to get pregnant for a while, but it turns out that they can't conceive naturally. After battling Chandler's unemployment, they find a woman who will give them their child.
The End & Future: The woman gives birth to twins, Erika and Jack, and Chandler and Monica move out of town in their own house, ending the show.

When I fell in love with them: I liked them when they were "just" friends, but as soon as they hooked up I was absolutely in love with their relationship.
Why I like them: For me, they symbolize a very real couple. Chandler is afraid of comittment, Monica can be a total control freak but they make it work because they love each other. They have amazing chemistry and undergo a wonderful journey together. Much more steady than Ross and Rachel.
Best Moment: In my all-time favourite episode "TOW everyone finds out" Chandler admits that he loves Monica after Phoebe, who knows about them, tries to seduce him.
Saddest Moment: I felt so bad for them when they found out that they weren't able to conceive a baby naturally because Monica wanted to have children all the time and I thought this was a very sad moment.

Why Nr.1? It's the perfect ship: It's romantic, they have chemistry, they are perfect for each other. Period.
Miscellaneous: This is propably one of my first "real" ship as Friends is my all-time favourite show and I used to watch it all the time. I still do, but I have other shows I love, too. Although I love Ross and Rachel, too, I always liked this couple better because they somehow seem more real.

Couples Countdown Nr.2

Cuddy & House
(House)

Current status: Flirting, sexual tension, one kiss
The Beginning: Who knows? Apperently, she had a crush on him in college and they slept once with each other before he came to work at Princeton Plainsboro.
Course of the Relationship: House and Cuddy were almost always fighting for power, but always flirting, too. There was a lot of sexual innuendo and battles in the first two seasons, but they started to grow closer in season three, when House was jealous of Cuddy's attempt of having a love life. When all of House's fellows left, he and Cuddy spent some time battling each other over hiring new fellows. When House was recovering from his almost-death in the season finale, Cuddy stayed at his side and held his hand. They grew closer at the beginning of the fifth season, when Cuddy decided to adopt a baby. When the adoption fell through, he came to her House and they kissed. House wanted more, but he was afraid to change and so nothing happened. They remained as close or distant as ever, Cuddy adopted a child which made House act jealous. They continued their games, but there's, as always, flirting.
The End & Future: House had some serious problems, hallucinating Amber and thought something was seriously wrong with him. He tried to detox with Cuddy's help, they kissed and had sex. But in the last ten minutes of the fifth season, this turned out to be just a hallucination and House went to a mental home.

When I fell in love with them: When I got used to House being an obnoxious ass, I started to love his chemistry with Cuddy and it's one of the reasons I started to religiously watch this show.
Why I like them: Their chemistry is amazing, they are almost equals (as equal one can get to House), they're both damaged people but kinda perfect for each other. Although they tease each other that often, they still have enormous respect for each other. They seem to know each other better than anyone else. Knowing that their relationship would be so hard, almost impossible makes me shio them even more. Plus, they're hot! ;)
Best Moment: It's like asking a mother to choose her favourite child! The kiss, her staying at his side at the end of season 5, their sex (although imaginitive), "How long have you known me?", the scene in Airborne, "Do you like me House?", him finding her old med school desk,.... I could go on for hours.
Saddest Moment: It's a tie between House telling her "You would have sucked at being a mother", their kiss and the end of season 5.

Why not Nr.1? Nothing really happened up til now but their chemistry is better than any other couple.
Miscellaneous: Can't wait how they handle the relationship in season 6, with House at a mental home.

Couples Countdown Nr.3

Meredith & Derek
(Grey's Anatomy)

Current status: Post-it married (Is that even legal?)
The Beginning: Before Meredith started her internship at Seattle Grace, she went to a bar, met a man and slept with him. Little did she know that she'd meet him again the next morning - as her new boss, neurosurgeon Derek Shepherd, who just moved to Seattle, too.
Course of the Relationship: Meredith didn't want a relationship with her boss, but Derek clearly wanted her. After some flirting, they slept with each other again and got caught by Bailey. When they managed that and Derek seemed to be ready to commit, his wife Addison came to Seattle, trying to reunite with him. Derek left Addison because she slept with his best friend Marc. Although Meredith pleaded that he'd choose her, he decided to give his marriage another try, but both were still in love. At a prom in the hospital, they slept with each other, ending Derek's marriage and eventually reuniting them. Meredith struggled with her mother's disease and her past and almost drowned. Their relationship is strained as he moves faster than she wants and they break up, only to have a lot of break-up sex. When he starts to behave like a boyfriend again, they break up again, but he says he'll wait for her. She isn't ready and so he begins dating a nurse, Rose. He tells Meredith he has waited long enough, but they still spend time togethere because they're working on a clinical study. Meredith undergoes psychotherepy and is ready to commit to him.
The End & Future: They move in together and take baby-steps to being a good couple. He goes through a hard time because he killed a patient and Meredith is there. He asks her to marry him, but she only says yes the third time, when he's doing it right. They get married on a post-it after they gave their (or better Izzie's) dream wedding to Izzie.

When I fell in love with them: I think in one of the first episode I saw of Grey's Anatomy, there was the scene with them in the elevator. So much love and lust, but they couldn't be together. That got me hooked on that show and that couple.
Why I like them: They are the heart and soul of Grey's Anatomy and their chemistry drives it. He's so very, very cute (and that hair ;) ) and she, well she's dark and twisty, but they still belong together. I especially like their light moments, their flirting and when they are just together. I love the concept that although he used to be married, he sees now that he belongs with her and not with Addison (although I liked Addison). They are unique and not the usual couple (the post-it wedding and the proposal come to mind), but they're romantic.
Best Moment: Everything that happened in an elevator: their hot kiss in season 1, his longing for her in season 2 and his marriage proposal in season 5.
Saddest Moment: I almost cried when Meredith drowned and he was fighting for her to live. I always thought this was the saddest moment, but then came season 5 and Derek hit the engagement ring with a baseball bat and he was soo angry, but she still stood by him. Sad and so romantic.

Why not Nr.1? The reason why this couple isn't number one? It's definetly not Derek's fault who is so damn cute and hot I get teary eyes. To tell the truth: Meredith can be very whiny and sometimes I don't think she deserves Derek. On the other hand: He lied to her about being married.
Miscellaneous: Dubbing problem: I love Derek's voice in English and Meredith's in German (kinda hate Ellen Pompeo's voice), so what's it gonna be? ;)

Couples Countdown Nr.4

Brennan & Booth
(Bones)

Current status: Flirting, one Kiss, Hugging
The Beginning: Brennan and Booth are partners, solving murders. She's the rational forensic anthropologist and he's the emotional cop. A perfect team.
Course of the Relationship: During the the four seasons, they got closer and closer. There have been some hugs, especially when one of them needs to be consoled and one kiss (albeit forced by Caroline as a Christmas prank). He has saved her life several times, taken bullets for her and she has saved his life in return. There is a lot of sexual tension and especially Booth seems to be fully aware that he might be in love with her.
The End & Future: Brennan decides she wants a baby - from Booth, but Booth has a brain tumour that needs to be operated on immediately - with Brennan at his side. He wakes up after being in a coma for four days and doesn't remember Brennan!

When I fell in love with them: First episode! Immediately fascinated.
Why I like them: Their sexual tension is amazing: They're very different (she's rational, he's emotional) but they complete each other. They have this amazing connection and because they rarely touch, each time they do, it's meaningful.
Best Moment: Season 1, episode 15: "Two Bodies in the Lab", Booth rescuing Brennan although badly injured. Their hug was so sweet and amazing. I also loved the court episode when Booth was lying for Brennan; oh and the Smurf thing!!! (LINK)
Saddest Moment: Season 4, episode 26: Booth not remembering Brennan

Why not Nr.1? Except that they trust each other deeply, nothing has happened really.
Miscellaneous: My newest couple. And it immediately got to Nr.4

Couples Countdown Nr.5

Rachel & Ross
(Friends)

Current status: Together, finally…
The Beginning: Ross has had a crush on Rachel for nine years, when they met again. Ross fell in love again, but when Rachel found out, he had already moved on.
Course of the Relationship: Rachel was jealous of Ross's new girlfriends and when she was drunk, she told him how she felt. They kissed but then got in a fight. Eventually they became a couple for about a year. When Rachel got a new job, Ross got jealous of her collegue Mark. After a fight, they took a break and Ross slept with another woman, resulting in a horrible breakup. They try to make it work once again, but when Rachel asks Ross to take full responsibility for their failing relationship, it doesn't succeed. They move on and Ross wants to get married to Emily but says Rachel's name at the althar. He gets a divorce, but stays friends with Rachel. They kiss when Monica gets engaged and shortly before Monica and Chandler's wedding, they have sex and Rachel gets pregnant. They move in together, but it get's very messy when feelings come up again. Joey develops feelings for Rachel and aks her to marry him (by accident) after Emma's birth, which stops a possible reunion. Although they're now just friends with a baby, their attraction is clearly visible.
The End & Future: Rachel wants to move to France with little Emma and Ross realizes he loves her. He tries to stop her at the airport, but misses her. She comes back and they reunite.

When I fell in love with them: They got me when they first kissed. It was raining and they had a big fight and then they had this amazing kiss… Flail.
Why I like them: Who doesn't like it? It's my first "big" ship and it's just a wonderful relationship. I like the whole "Geek" and "Beauty" concept and the fact that he has been in love with her for so long. They care deeply for each other and know that they will end up with each other. No other relationship the characters were in could stand up to this ship.
Best Moment: I absolutely loved the episode where Ross is Rachel's lobster. They kiss and really become a couple for the first time in this episode and it just shows perfectly, how Ross was in love with her for soo long.
Saddest Moment: Season 3, episode 16 "The one with the morning after". I actually cried the first time they broke up

Why not Nr.1? I know this is one of the super-couples, the one prototype for the on-off relationship. But for my taste, they broke them off one too many times
Miscellaneous: It's the on-off prototype

Couples Countdown TOP 5

In a mere 2 weeks we have reached the TOP 5 of my Couple's Countdown and as I have to rewrite 2 out of my top 5, because new episodes aired, this is basically a filler post, looking back over the last 20 (or rather 21) couples.

Here they are again, neatly from 25 to 6:

Nr.25: Sabrina & Harvey (LINK)
Nr.24: Becky & Jesse (LINK)
Nr.23: Summer & Seth (LINK)
Nr.22: Lynette & Tom (LINK)
Nr.21: Phoebe & Cole (LINK)
Nr.20: Phoebe & Mike (LINK)
Nr.19: Susan & Mike (LINK)
Nr.18: Marissa & Ryan (LINK)
Nr.17: Jordan & Dr.Cox (LINK)
Nr.16: Grace & Will (LINK)
Nr.15: Angela & Jack (LINK)
Nr.14: Gabrielle & Carlos (LINK)
Nr.13B: Piper & Leo (LINK)
Nr.13A: Blair & Chuck (LINK)
Nr.12: Elliot & JD (LINK)
Nr.11: Fran & Maxwell (LINK)
Nr.10: Carrie & Mr.Big (LINK)
Nr.9: Carla & Turk (LINK)
Nr.8: Christina & Burke (LINK)
Nr.7: Izzie & Alex (LINK)
Nr.6: Christina & Owen (LINK)
Of course, most of my favourite shows are already there, some of them more than once.
Desperate Housewives (3), Bones (1), Grey's Anatomy (3) and Scrubs (3) are all mentioned, but there are still some couples from that show that are missing. And one show hasn't made an appearance yet. Who will it be?
We also encountered some couples from shows that have already ended, but there are still so many good memories about them, that I enjoyed writing about them again. Of course Friends (1), but also Full House (1), Sabrina, the teenage witch (1), Sex and the City (1), The Nanny (1), The OC (2), Will & Grace (1) and Charmed (2) and there are still two major couples from this category.
We also had a last-minute contestant from Gossip Girl (1), which is my new addiction/guilty pleasure. This reminds me of some couples that didn't get in here, as for example Chuck and Ned from "Pushing Daisies" (who I totally forgot), any couple from Private Practice (who I forgot, too, but I love Addison and Pete or Cooper and Violet) or Nate and Serena from "Gossip Girl" (who I don't ship that much). Maybe I'll do another Couples Countdown in the next Summer hiatus, but this one is supposed to be about couples that melted my icy heart ;)
There's really not much else to say, except that it was absolutely hell to rank the last five couples as I love them so much and they are sometimes one of the main reasons I watch the show. These five couples are of course subject to change and tehy will change next season, I'm sure. But nontheless, four of them will remain in the top 5 if nothing major happens. The fifth one is a new one, so I hope it will stay there, but who knows what show I will watch next...
Enjoy the TOP 5!!!

Couples Countdown Nr.6

Christina & Owen
(Grey's Anatomy)

Current status: Together, I think
The Beginning: Owen inturbated a man with a pen and pulled an icicle out of Christina's belly. They kissed and he left, going back to Iraq.
Course of the Relationship: When Owen came back, he was a changed man, traumatized by the war. He didn't really recognize Christina, but he then fell in love with her. He didn't want to be with her because he thought he was too damaged, but they couldn't stay apart either. They kissed, but then one morning, he choked her because he thought she was an enemy. He apologized, they slept together, but then separated because Christina was too scared. They admitted they loved each other, but couldn't stay together.
The End & Future: In the season 5 finale, Christina got Owen to see his mum. Owen asked Christina if they could try again and she said yes.

When I fell in love with them: I think it must have been when they kissed for the second time, in the alley. HOT! And dramatic. And sad.
Why I like them: They belong together, but can't be. They love each other, but his trauma gets in the way. He tries to be a better person for her, she tries to get over his mistakes. It's just a very "real" relationship: They're not perfect, but they're perfect for each other.
Best Moment: The kiss on the vent.
Saddest Moment: After they had sex, Christina is scared Owen might fall asleep and they break up.

Why Nr.6? Their passion is amazing but it's a really complicated relationship.
Miscellaneous: The shortest love story yet (only season 5), but already number 6. Christina is also the only person mentioned twice on this list.

Couples Countdown Nr.7

Izzie & Alex
(Grey's Anatomy)

Current status: Married
The Beginning: It wasn't exactly love at first sight: Izzie despised Alex for… well being a jerk and only after some time she realized that there was more to him than she thought.
Course of the Relationship: After some time, Alex asks Izzie out on a date but because he just got to know he failed his medical exams, he treated her shabbily. Izzie is very mad but eventually they kiss in a bar and start to go out. Their relationship comes to an end when Alex sleeps with a nurse and Izzie falls in love with another man, the patient Denny, but continues to sleep with Alex. Eventually she gets engaged to Denny but he dies and it's Alex who picks her up and carrys her out. They don't get together because Izzie's not ready for a new relationship. Izzie falls in love with George, Alex likes Ava who turns out to be mentally ill. Both relationships don't last and Alex is devastated and turns to Izzie for comfort. They kiss and after some time, become a couple. They are in love, but Izzie gets cancer which worries them both.
The End & Future: Before Izzie's surgery, they spontaneously ger married and fight cancer together. After her surgery, Izzie can't remember what happened and eventually, her heart stops.

When I fell in love with them: I think it was the kiss in the bar. They have been friends for some time but this kiss was so passionately, I couldn't help leaning to the TV.
Why I like them: Once again an on-off relationship. I liked the concept that Alex used to be very arrogant and Izzie is this sweet lttle girl and still they are torn to each other like a moth to a flame. He can be kind of soft and she likes his vulnerable side. Of course he cheated on her but eventually, he's there for him (e.g. after Denny's death) and she's there for him (when Ava turns crazy).
Best Moment: It has to be the kiss in the bar, as mentioned above.
Saddest Moment: I was almost (!) crying in the season 4 finale when Alex turns to Izzie for comfort and they kiss for the first time after they have been separated for almost a season.

Why Nr.7? One of the couples I don't really know how to feel about; I used to not like them together. They gained many points this season because they both grew up and became a real couple.
Miscellaneous: Will Izzie live or die? They might become the second couple on my list parted by death.

Couples Countdown Nr.8

Christina & Burke
(Grey's Anatomy)

Current status:
Separated, unlikely to get back together ever.
The Beginning:
Following her best friend's example, Christina starts a fling with Burke after he seems to be interested in her.
Course of the Relationship:
At the beginning of their relationship, it's all about sex and after a few weeks later Christina discovers that she's pregnant. She doesn't tell him and wants to abort the baby, but she loses it, which brings her closer with Burke. She moves in with him, but keeps her apartment for some time. Burke is always the one to make the first step and he tells her that he loves her. Eventually, Christina gives up her apartment. They grow closer when Burke gets shot and loses functionality in his hand. In the end, Burke proposes and after some time Christina accepts.
The End & Future:
On their wedding day, Christina gets cold feet: She leaves Burke at the althar and Burke leaves Seattle.

When I fell in love with them:
Season 2, Episode 4 "Deny, deny, deny" Christina has been crying almost the entire episode and Burke comes in and consoles her. The way he held her was so samn cute that I was hooked on this couple.
Why I like them:
They don't seem to be happy most of the time, Burke tries too hard, Christina too little and still: They have amazing chemistry, they seem to love each other very much and it's a great love story. Very real, because they have both flaws and they try to work around them. I'm actually pretty sad that they didn't get a happy end, but maybe that's part of their magic.
Best Moment:
As above: Season 2, Episode 4
Saddest Moment:
Christina leaves Burke at the althar. I know it was necessary that Isiah Washington left the show but come on: I rooted for this couple so much for three seasons and now they'll never be together again… Kind of sad.

Why Nr.8?
Although they're not your usual, happy couple and the end is very sad, I still like their chemistry and their differences.
Miscellaneous:
The second couple in my list who won't be together and won't have a happy ending.

Couples Countdown Nr.9

Carla & Turk
(Scrubs)

Current status: Married, one child (Izzie), one on the way
The Beginning: Carla and Turk almost slept together in the pilot episode of the show, but Carla let him undress and then left.
Course of the Relationship: For some time, Turk tried to get a date with Carla, but she didn't want to because she was looking for the "real" thing. After some time they started dating and eventually Turk told Carla, a he loved her (After everyone thought they were about to break up) A year later, Turk asked Carla to marry her, but she needed some time to think. When Turk was almost ready to give up, she accepted and they got married in the hospital because Turk missed the ceremony in the church. They tried for some time to get pregant and eventually succeeded. Their little daughter Izabel (Izzie) was born and after suffering through postpartum depression, Carla returned to work. Carla's thinking about having a second baby while Turk has grown up but is still a little boy when he's around JD.
The End & Future: Carla gets pregnant with their second child. In the future, their daughter Izzie is marrying JD's son Sam.

When I fell in love with them: Season 1, episode 12, "My blind date" Turk and Carla have a fight and you think they break up, but Turk tells her that he wants to spend "every iritating moment" with her. I loved that episode.
Why I like them: Again, I like this relationship because of its reality and nice romantic moments. It's not over the top romantic as other relationship and you can always relate to them. They're scared of commitment, they have fights and when they have a baby, they know it's not going to be easy. On the other hand they always stay together, they help each other through problems and most important: Carla accepts Turk's weird guy-friendship with JD ;) They just live their everyday life with all its ups and downs.
Best Moment: I liked the birth of their daughter very much, their song in "My Musical" and the above mentioned moment when they realize they love each other.
Saddest Moment: I was very disappointed when Turk didn't make it to the wedding on time. I just felt so sorry for Carla. The other moment would be Carla's suffering through postpartum depression that made me almost cry.

Why Nr.9? It's an almost perfect relationship with ups and downs and a lot of realism.
Miscellaneous: Maybe you should call this realtionship a "triangle"… JD and Turk are really close , too :D

Couples Countdown Nr.10

Carrie & Mr.Big
(Sex and the City)

Current status: Married
The Beginning: Carrie meets Mr.Big in the first episode and they bump into each other by accident a lot. But then they decide to go on a date.
Course of the Relationship: It's once again (as most TV romances are) an on-off relationship. He doesn't want to commit, she does and they split up and reconcile and split up again. He marries a much younger woman, but starts an affair with her. They split up but Mr. Big gets a divorce and they become friends.
The End & Future: Eventually, they get together again and they get married in the movie (after they split up once again)

When I fell in love with them: In the first episode when I saw that they have amazing chemstry.
Why I like them: I love their relationship because a) it's an on-off relationship which is always great for TV and b) because they're incredible sexy together. I loved the scene in the movie where they lie in the closet, just arm in arm.
Best Moment: Season 6, episode 18 (I think), the one where Big gets heart surgery and Carie is all worried. He's getting sicker and she tries to take care of him. He then asks "What are we doing", all regrettful. My heart of ice melted. Oh, and I loved their kiss in the season 6 finale.
Saddest Moment: Their break-up in season 1

Why Nr.10? They're amazing, but I hated that they broke them up that often.
Miscellaneous: Only couple from a show that got made into a movie.

Couples Countdown Nr.11

Fran & Maxwell
(The Nanny)

Current status: Married, with twins Eve and Jonah
The Beginning: Maxwell hired the unconventional Fran as a nanny for his three children, but she became not only a mother for his children, but a lover to him.
Course of the Relationship: Fran was pining for Maxwell for quite some time, when he told her he loved her when their plane was about to crash. He backed out, but they kissed several times and he was really jealous when she met other men. They went to Paris together where Fran tried to seduce him, but when she almost succeeded, Niles had a heart attack. They almost slept with each other in the bed next to him, but never talked about it again, but decided to start dating. They started to call each other by their first names, when Fran went away and met an Arabian prince. Maxwell flies to rescue her and tells her he loves her. They kiss and soon afterwards, he asks her to marry him. They get married and spent their honeymoon on an isolated island.
The End & Future: In the last season, Fran gets pregnant with twins and they move to a bigger house, all happy.

When I fell in love with them: I used to love them when I first watched this show as a child and thought they belonged together.
Why I like them: His insecurity, her obvious pining, the "Mr.Sheffield" and "Miss Fine" (I just loved that, made calling each other by first name special), the very funny scenes they had together and that it took so long for them to get together. Although this was a couple in a comedy, they still managed to have chemistry and obvious attraction for each other. Their kisses were hot as hell, by the way...
Best Moment: Him asking her to marry him or way back in season 1 when Maxwell came to her reunion becasue he knew she needed a date. (CUTE!)
Saddest Moment: I think it was somewhere in season 3 or 4 when Maxwell told her that he thinks their relationship would ruin what they have and they should stay friends. They kiss and both are really sad it's not more. I thought this was one of the most real and saddest moment sin the whole show.

Why Nr.11? It's not in the top ten, because it suffers from the "Moonlighting" effect: The missing tension in season 6 was the end for the show. Plus, it's a comedy, so there are few really romantic moments.
Miscellaneous: -

Couples Countdown Nr.12

Elliot & JD
(Scrubs)

Current status: Together
The Beginning: JD was smitten the instant he saw Elliot. He asked her out but she turned out to be a little, well let's call it competitive.
Course of the Relationship: They decided to become friends instead although JD always wanted her to be more. A little later, they slept together and they were a couple for a few weeks but they realized that they weren't cut out to be a couple. After some uncomfortable days, they were friends again but slept together a year after they broke up, split up and slept together again, after JD realized that he loved her. Elliot left her boyfriend for JD who then realized he didn't want her. Both had several relationships, JD got a son and Elliot got engaged, but they also shared a moment when they almost kissed. Elliot broke up with Keith and JD didn't get together again with his child's mother. They got back together just ebcause they decided they belong together.
The End & Future: A flash-forward suggests they get married and Elliot gets pregnant.

When I fell in love with them: I liked them in the first season, especially when they shared that pizza.
Why I like them: I liked their relationship when they first hooked up and I loved the second time. When they split up the second time, I thought: Well, maybe that's not meant to be. JD started to like her and she split up with her boyfriend. And then, when they just got back together, JD didn't want her any more. I absolutely hated that. Since then, I'm rather sceptic and for a long time I couldn't imagine them being together again. But recently, I kind of got used to the idea, so maybe... some time... who knows?
Best Moment: When they hooked up for the third time I felt so happy for them because they seemed to genuinely like each other this time. Right before JD didn't want her any more.
Saddest Moment: The end of "My bed, banter and beyond". The whole episode was about their relationship and at that point it was already clear that they will split up. But the episode jumped back to the first day of their relationship and they were so full of hope, I felt so sorry for them that it didn't work out.

Why Nr.12? Sometimes I like them, sometimes I don't. I haven't made up my mind yet.
Miscellaneous: I always like to think of them as the "Ross and Rachel" of our time.

Couples Countdown Nr.13A

Blair & Chuck
(Gossip Girl)

Current status: Together (I think)
The Beginning: After Nate and Blair broke up, she went to Chuck's nightclub where she went on stage and stripped. On the way home, she and Chuck slept with each other in his limo.
Course of the Relationship: Chuck develops feelings for Blair and they sleep with each other for some time, but then try to hide it from Nate whom Blair still loves. They spent some time apart, but at the Bass wedding they reconnect when Chuck confesses to Nate that he loved Blair. They plan to go to Europe together, but Chuck stands her up because he's afraid his life will change. When they meet again after the summer, Blair has brought home a Duke, making Chuck jealous. He fails to tell her he loves her and Blair gets serious with the Duke. When the relationship fails and Vanessa has pictures of the reason it failed, Blair tries to get Chuck to seduce Vanessa. Eventually, Chuck tells Blair he's done chasing her and so, Blair tries to seduce him but he tells her, it's not their time. When Chuck's father dies, Blair tries to be there for him, but he leaves her because he thinks he's not good enough for her. After some time, Chuck realizes that he still loves Blair, but she has gone back to Nate. They compete for her attraction, but Chuck seems to give up although he tells Serena he loves Blair.
The End & Future: Nate and Blair break up and she wants Chuck to say the three little words. Gossip Girl tells the truth about everyone, including Chuck's night with Vanessa and Blair's night with Chuck's uncle. Chuck flees, but returns and finally tells Blair he loves her.

When I fell in love with them: Season 1, episode 7&8: I immediately fell in love with them when they first slept with each other. He was asking her if she was sure and then said he kinda liked her on her birthday.
Why I like them: They're perfect for each other. She know him better than anyone else and - what's even more important - and can accept who he is. They're both kinda mean and he has many flaws, but he loves her very much. He even loves her enough to let her go. Eventually, they can't keep away from each other although Blair likes other guys (Nate, Markus) and Chuck tries to find his happiness with different women every night.
Best Moment: It's a tie between his "I love you" in the season 2 finale and their dance at the Bass wedding (before he bails on her of course)
Saddest Moment: As most of their moments are sad (and passionate), I really can't decide. But if I had to, it would be Blair's I love you after Chuck's father died and his "That's too bad". I also almost cried when he sat on her bed later and she just hugged him.

Why Nr. 13A? Passionate, desperate, impossible. It's an almost perfect ship.
Miscellaneous: Reminds me of Phoebe and Cole of Charmed or Carrie and Big from Sex and the Ciry, but even more passionate.

Couples Countdown Nr.13B

Piper & Leo
(Charmed)

Current status: Married, three children (Wyatt, Chris and Melinda)
The Beginning: Leo used to be the handyman living next door and Piper and Phoebe were instantly smitten. Leo fell for Piper and they started a relationship.
Course of the Relationship: Leo turned out to be a whitelighter who wasn't allowed to have a relationship with a witch thus ending the relationship with Piper. Piper starts to date the neighbour but eventually she and Leo - who was suspended from being a whitelighter for some time because he healed her - got back together once again. Leo asked Piper to marry her, but at fisrt the Elders were against it. Eventually they allowed them to get married and soon their first son Wyatt was born. When Leo was promoted to an Elder, he left his family with their new whitelighter Chris, who turned out to be Piper's and his second son. When Leo realized he was going to be a father again, he wanted to get together with Piper but because he wanted to revenge Chris's death, he became an Avatar. After some struggle, he became a human and stayed with his family for good.
The End & Future: In the last season, Leo was supposed to die as a motivation for the sisters to fight an evil force. They succeed and Leo and Piper reunite and have another daughter.

When I fell in love with them: I think it was right at the beginning when Piper and Phoebe fought over Leo and it was clear they both liked each other right from the beginning.
Why I like them: It's about magic, it's a forbidden love and a struggle for both of them. They want to be together and they went through so much together and eventually they got their happily ever after. I think they make a perfect couple, sweet and very romantic and I always liked seeing them together, especially with their little son(s).
Best Moment: I loved the scene when they were in the Ghostly Plane and they realized they still loved each other.
Saddest Moment: Leo has been taken away by the Elders and Piper demands him back. Great scene.

Why Nr.13B? They have been through so much but eventually they get together. Negative point: Taking Leo away for the last season was absolutely redundant.
Miscellaneous: It's the third couple from a fantasy show - and the last one.

Couples Countdown Nr.14

Gabrielle & Carlos
(Desperate Housewives)

Current status: Married(?), two children (As of episode 100)
The Beginning: At the beginning of the show, Carlos and Gabrielle were unhappily married. Carlos wanted a baby very much and Gabrielle wanted the gardener very much, so she had an affair with him.
Course of the Relationship: Because of several financial problems, Carlos had to go to prison and was almost sentenced to even more time in jail because he beat up two guys who he thought were having an affair. Gabrielle originally wanted him to stay in prison because he messed with her birth control pills, but she eventually decided to blackmail him into taking complete care of the baby in exchange for her testimony. Gabrielle lost the baby and because she can't get pregnant again, they try to adopt a child. Eventually, they find surrogate mother Xiao-Mei, which whom Carlos starts an affair. Gabrielle and Carlos get divorced but stay clos and still have feelings for one another. Carlos gets together with Edie, Gabrielle marries Victor Lang but kisses Carlos on her wedding day, because Victor only married her to gain goodwill. They plan to run away together but that proves to be difficult because Edie tried to kill herself when Carlos left her. Gabrielle tries to leave Victor who almost drowns when he, Gabrielle and Carlos were on a boat. Victor remembers the incident on the boat and now tries to kill Gabrielle and Carlos. When he attempts to shoot Carlos during the tornado, he is killed by a flying fence post, leaving him blind.
The End & Future: Five years later, they have two daughters and they're pretty broke because Carlos can't really work because he's blind. Gabrielle has changed, they are happy, but when Carlos can see again, she wants him to take another, well-paid job.
When I fell in love with them: It was only in late season two - when they tried to get a baby and Gabrielle had split up with John - when I liked them together. Before that, it seemed as though they weren't meant to be together at all.
Why I like them: He loves her, she loves him and they still keep fighting all the time. They can't stay together, they can't stay apart. I like their chemistry, her bitchy side and his macho side colliding. In the end, they love each other and can't keep their hands off each other. They try to find happiness with other partners but they are still drawn to each other. At least it never gets boring ;)
Best Moment: I liked this scene when the police came and took Gaby away and Carlos stood on the porch drinking a beverage. Can't remember which season. And I loved the season three finale when they were kissing at her wedding.
Saddest Moment: I really don't remember any particular moment. Of course I didn't like the time when they were apart, but other than that?
Why Nr.14? They started as an unhappily married couple and you thought they didn't like each other but eventually they love and forgave each other.
Miscellaneous: Perhaps the couple having the most affairs in this list.

XOXO, Gossip Girl

It was bound to happen: I've got yet another addiction that will help me get over the summer hiatus: Gossip Girl. I have been watching it in German for some time because the spoiler sites are all over it and I though that I might like it. I wasn't that into it to be honest, but I wanted to give it a chance. Then episode 7 (Victor/Victrola) came and as most Gossip Girl fans know: Blair and Chuck's limo sex. As you already know, I'm a sucker for couples (Read my couples countdown HERE) and they got me right away.

Consequently, I watched the whole two seasons in the last five days and it's now one of my new favourite shows and a guilty pleasure. It reminded me very much of "The OC" (just found out that one of the creators is the creator of OC, so it figures), and it's actually basically the same setting: rich teens and their problems. And as Gossip Girl is set in New York (only my favourite city ever), I love it even more. Cuz I went to New York last summer, I recognize streets and then remember how I was walking along those streets and get all giddy.
As always, I'll just post a list of reasons I love this show, maybe get someone else as excited about Gossip Girl as I am right now:
  • The concept: It's the first show that integrates our modern communication media (blogs and cell phones) successfully. And as we all secretly love gossip, it's great if we can see how it affects everyone. I also like the Upper East Side - Brooklyn tension, the whole Serena-Dan coupling is Cinderella all over again (the other way round)
  • The drama: Who can resist a good drama? And of course the many, many relationships of our main characters. There are happy and funny moments, but mainly, there are vendettas and intrigues. Most of all, I like that every time you think you know what's going to happen, they turn it round in the last two minutes.
  • The Characters: I love that it is mainly an ensemble show and everyone has their moments. The characters are not just one-dimensional, but very layered, especially Blair and Chuck. When you think you know a character, he does something out of character and you have to adjust your view.
  • The design: The newest clothes, the most expensive accessoires, the nicest appartments and of course the inevitable limo. It's New York's High Society and it's just great to see their life-style.
  • The setting: As already mentioned, I just love New York and so I love to see as much of the city as possible. This show is ideal, as a lot of the action is happening outside, in Central Park, on fifth avenue or even on Times Square.
  • The actors: They're very talented, especially the actors of Chuck and Blair, of course. Although most of them are actually older than their characters (which I hate), they succeed in portraying teenagers. I was especially surprised that the actress of Jenny is actually as old as her character and she's really amazing.
  • Lily & Rufus: I love that there's not only a story about the teenagers, but also about the grown-ups. Lily and Rufus belong together and they have been on and off for over 20 years and even have a child together. They mirror Dan & Serena's story which is really amazing, as I love their relationship, too.
  • Chuck & Blair: How do I even beginn to describe their hotness? They're perfect for each other. Plus, the actors are amazing.

Well, that'S it for now, but I could talk for hours about this, especialyl about my new ship, hehe. I'm very excited to see, what will happen in season 3, when they're all going to college. Well, most of them. Let's see if Rufus and Lily actually get married, if Serena finds her father, how Jenny is as the new Queen Bee, if Chuck and Blair can be a real couple (but I hope there will be some drama, too) and what happens to Nate and Vanessa.

Couples Countdown Nr.15

Angela & Jack
(Bones)

Current status: Separated
The Beginning: In the end of season 1, they started flirting and Jack asked Angela out, but she refused.
Course of the Relationship: When she finally accepted to go on a date, it was the best date she ever had, but she was scared it would be weird to date someone from work. But when Jack almost dies because of the Gravedigger, she realizes she likes him and they kiss. They date and confess their love for each other and Jack asks her to move in with him. She doesnt. He asks her to marry him. She doesn't. But then she decides she wants to marry him. Because Angela is already married, they don't get married.
The End & Future: Angela's husband arrives and over this trouble they split up, but still feel connected.

When I fell in love with them: Their first date: The swing idea was amazing, they shared their first kiss and they just clicked as a couple.
Why I like them: Oh man, they're just so cute. Especially Jack. The way he's looking at Angela maks my heart flutter and they work so well as a team. I hated that they broke them up, but they're just meant for each other. So much cuteness has to be together.
Best Moment: Their first date and the "Be my love" glowing shrimp.
Saddest Moment: Sad but good: Jack in the car in the sand confessing his love for Angela. Sad and bad: Their break-up.

Why Nr.15? Although they're cute, they're separated now for various reasons I don't understand and I somehow think are too scripted.
Miscellaneous: One of my newest couples.

Couples Countdown Nr.16

Grace & Will
(Will & Grace)

Current status:
Married, but not with each other. Related because their children got married.
The Beginning:
Will and Grace met in college and soon started a relationship. One year later Will proposed to her but he only wanted to postpone having sex with her. He realized that he was gay and Grace was devastated.
Course of the Relationship:
A few years later, they met again and soon they became best friends. They moved in together after one of Grace's relationships failed and helped each other through several break-ups, new boyfriends, always knowing that the other one has their back. They even decide that they want to have a child through artificial insemination but eventually Grace falls in love with another man, Leo. She gets married to him and Will and Grace have a huge fight. After some time they reconcile but in the end, both have new partners.
The End & Future:
Will and Grace decide that they have to lead their own lives. Grace marries Leo, Will marries Vince, both have children and eventually these children marry, reuniting the couple as relatives.

When I fell in love with them:
First episode. I instantly liked their closeness and the whole concept of them being best friends.
Why I like them:
They're absolutely cute together. They're so close, maybe closer than most "real" couples and behave like husband and wife, but they support each other when someone has a new partner. I like that they're so funny together and that they complete each other. I always felt that they should hook up, but after all, he's gay.
Best Moment:
I don't have one moment, I just loved their general closeness and the way they always looked out for the other one.
Saddest Moment:
Their fight when Grace didn't want the artificial insemination.

Why Nr.16?
I hated the finale: Why do they have to spent so much time apart? They were best friends, almost lovers and they spent so much time apart?
Miscellaneous:
A couple that isn't a couple: Will's gay and Grace is in love with other men. I still always thought they belong together.

Couples Countdown Nr.17

Jordan & Dr.Cox
(Scrubs)

Current status: Divorced, but a couple, two children
The Beginning: JD sleeps with the new boardmember Jordan and discovers that she's Cox's ex-wife. Cox and Jordan have been married before the show but they couldn't get along. After meeting for some time just to sleep with each other, they get together again.
Course of the Relationship: Jordan's pregnancy softens Cox and when he finds out that Jordan's son Jack is actually his, the couple seems to grow even closer. One day, they get to know that they're actually married but they decide to get divorced, because it makes them happier than being married. They usually fight a lot but they have their moments. When Jack is older, they want to give their "baby-stuff" away, but a few days later they find out that Jordan's pregnant again. They decide to keep the baby but they have more problems when it turns out that the little girl has to undergo surgery in the womb. Eventually she gets born healthy and named Jennifer Dylan (J.D.).
The End & Future: In season 8 and the finale, they grow even closer.

When I fell in love with them: Season 2, episode 8 "My Fruit Cups": After they have had casual sex for a while, Jordan returns pregnant from a trip and tells Cox that some bellboy got her pregnant. Cox choses her and his sentence "Hey Lady. I'm proud of what you're doing here" made me ship this couple for the whole show.
Why I like them: Their differences. They seem to argue all the time, they have wonderful battles. She is an evil witch, he's an arrogant, cocky doctor. But they complete each other perfectly, seem to be good parents and their few romantic moments are wonderful.
Best Moment: I don't have one specific moment, just those few moments when they behave like a loving couple and not fighting for a change.
Saddest Moment: Season 2, Episode 2 "My Nightingale" Cox found out thathe is the father of baby Jack. He breaks up with Jordan but she keeps running after him until he eventually forgives her. I hated to see this cuple almost split up.

Why Nr.17? Married, divorced, in love, two children, but they refuse to get married: A very special couple who seem to argue more than they love each other.
Miscellaneous: It's not the usual couple, but there is a lot of chemistry. If Scrubs was a drama show, I'd love this couple even more. But because it's a comedy show and an ensemble show, they don't get enough screen-time.
