I'm currently rewatching old House episodes, I mean, season 1 and onwards and now I'm mid-second-season. And as there has been some discussion about House as someone in love or in a relationship (Read also HERE), I just wanted to weigh in on that discussion with some observations and thoughts about House as a romantic or as a person in a relationship.
First observation: House used to be more romantic and open than he is today. He went on a date with Cameron (more on that a little later), he even admitted having some feelings for her. He actively persued Stacy, kissed her, had sex with her and then tried to make a relationship work. Okay, he chickened out, but still. Love and Romanticism has always been a part of House.
Second ovservation: He still has the same problems today he had then. He chickened out of a relationship with Stacy because he thought he was not able to change and he liked his self-image of a miserable genius. In the recent past, he has never been able to persue Cuddy because he was afraid he was too miserable to be happy. Good continuity.
Third observation: I'm actually glad few to no people are going to read this as it might be a reason for flaming: The thought of House with Cameron and her crush on him almost makes me physically nauseous. Sorry, I just can't stand her girlish crush on him. Her fawning over him and her trying to "save" him. It made sense she'd fall for him, but that scene where she practically forced him to go on a date with her makes me flinch. Fortunately, they didn't drag that one out over four seasons or something. I lvoe the scene where she says to him: "You just couldn't love me" True. Very true.
Fourth observation: I really liked House with Stacy back then but it woldn't make sense for them to try to reactivate that storyline. Reviving this dead relationship once again would be overkill. It was also necessary to tell House's story of how his leg got hurt.
Fifth observation: Just two general thoughts: House is one amazing show. Even after rewatching the first season for the fifth or sixth time, I still laugh out loud. And the old team was good but not perfect. They got annoying, too. But Formean used to be surprisingly interesting.
Sixth and final observation: You know what's coming: The House-Cuddy relationship was there in the first season. It was! In the pilot, in so many episode where he checked out her ass, boobs or whatever. "Humpty Dumpty" comes to mind where everyone thinks they have slept together (which they did). The two of them in constant bickering, but also showing that they trust each other. And on her side: In "Babies and Bathwater" (01x18) she fights for him, mainly because he's the best doctor but you can see her attachment. In "Humpty Dumpty" (02x03) she's so visibly checking him out (even with Stacy in the room) and in 02x11, the episode where Stacy leaves, she's a little jealous when Stacy keeps asking her advice for dealing with House. It's all there, small and innocent. But it will bloom...^^
So, that's it for now, back to watching episode. I will contninue with 02x11. Let'ssee how far I'll come. I'll close this post with the scene that makes me hopeful that season 7 is going to be awesome and that makes my heart melt every time.
