Gossip Girl: "Revearsals of Fortune" (03x01)

The moment is finally here: I just watched the first new episode of Goosip Girl (and any of my shows for that matter) since May. Okay, it's been a few hours now and I watched it twice, but I'm still as excited as this morning and before I go to sleep I wanted to write some impressions.
First of all: I really liked this episode and I probably would have loved it if it wasn't the first episode after three months. When you wait for something that long and have really high expectations, the real thing is bound to dissapoint you a little. Plus, I religiously watched every sneek peak and promo and saw all the pictures, so I've seen many good moments. I guess I'll just have to rewatch it midseason and then I will like it even more.
Because overall, I felt that there were too many stories, some of them not that interesting and I really have to get used to their new cutting method. I know that the season opener has to reestablish the characters and cover their summers, but it was a little much. But I hope that all of these storylines unfold this season and when they're going back to school next week, I'm really hoping everything will go back on track. Anyway, on to the different storylines:

Bree and Nate. Meh. Ever since pictures and spoilers of them were out, I wasn't really convinced. They're setting it of to be some Romeo-Juliet thing which I kinda like. Basically, Nate van der Bilt and Bree Buckley, who come from rivalling families, met on a plane and made out. Nate wanted to see her again (and piss of his family, who shunned him for turning down an internship at the mayor's office) and invited her to a polo match. Bree apparently tried to cut herself loose from her family, too but now she wants to reunite with them. Hence, Nate and her relationship has to stay a secret. Grandpa van der Bilt apparently wants to help them, but he seems to have an evil plan.
Although I do not like this storyline that much, I'm kinda excited to see what Nate's granddad will do. And Bree and Nate are kinda cute.

Vanessa, Dan and Scott: Before this episode aired, I read a lot of forum posts and discovered that many people hate Vanessa. I didn't. But I kinda do now because she was pretty annoying in this episode. I know she's the "conscience" of this show and she's there to balance the Upper Eastside madness, but come on: Inviting yourself to a charity polo game to appologize and then make a scene? Plus, her relationship with Scott couldn't be more boring. He's using her to get to his real family and they have zero chemistry. (And on a purely superficial level: He's smaller than her!!!) Vanessa's storyline was only interesting when she crossed paths with Dan, who got kinda interesting suddenly. I liked that he was teaming up with Blair and I understand that now he has money, he wants to use it. Be honest Vanessa: Who wouldn't? One highlight: Scott's meeting with Rufus. SOOO awkward.
All in all, this storyline was probably the most uninteresting one, BUT I'm so excited for the episode when Vanessa finds out Scott's been using her. DRAMA!!!

Jenny, Eric and Rufus: Jenny and Eric have been living the sweet life in the Hamptons all summer long, while protecting Serena from Rufus and Lilly. And that's basically it for Jenny and Eric. I love them together by the way. They're so cute as brother and sister and I'm looking forward to see them at Constance and St.Jude's in future episode.
Meanwhile, Rufus has been sitting all of the children because Lilly is with Cece, whose cancer is apparently real now (What did I miss? When did they say that?). Apart from this being only a way to give the actress maternity leave, I kinda like Rufus in this new role and environment. Looking forward to Lilly's return, but not so much to the whole Scott story that will unfold then. It's so soapy.

Serena and Carter Baizen: Serena, who has been to Europe this summer looking for her father and finding a few men on her way, returns as the papparazzi's new darling and seems to enjoy it. Carter Baizen, who has travelled with her for some time, also returns and seems to stalk her. But it's all different, because Carter just wants Serena to face the facts: Her daddy didn't want to see her. Realizing this, they kiss and go deeper into the forest.
I'm surprised, but I like Carter and Serena together. He's witty and charming and seems to get along with Serena. The whole papparazzi storyline is a little out there, but kinda fun. I'm hoping we get to see Serena's dad (probably at Lilly and Rufus' wedding ;) ) and Serena and Carter continue their relationship. I like them.

Chuck and Blair: Save the best for last. As they're the main reason I watch Gossip Girl, I was looking forward to their scenes the most. And they didn't dissapoĆnt me. As already hinted in the promo, Chuck was flirting with a blonde girl and Blair busted in on them. I already figured that it was a scam, but still, fun! I loved Chuck's "Hey" and their kiss. Freaking hot. But although it was just a game to keep their honeymoon phase alive, it was bound to go wrong. Blair was getting jealous and Chuck then promised her to stop. When they didn't have fun at the polo game and Blair saw Chuck with another blonde, she was really jealous and drove back to New York to catch him cheating. But he was just tired and had gone back home. Blair was scared they'd get boring, but Chuck said that they'd never be boring (He's sooo right ;) ) and then they stopped the games for the night.
I sooo love them. And it's exciting to see a more mature and sensible Chuck. He really loves her and although she's paranoid, she can trust him. I think the writers did a good job trying to capture their insecurities. They're a couple now and they have to accept that. So do we, the viewers. It's weird to see them not fighting, but it reminds me of season 1 episode 8 and 10, when he was consoling her (Kiss on the shoulders) and then their make-out session in her room. This used to be the only scene of them together as a couple and now we get these every week. It's weird, but wonderful. And they can make it work.

Well, that's it for now. All in all, al good episode and worth the wait but not the best episode ever. Can't wait for next week and here's to a great season 3 (Which I know it will be!)

Best Moment: Blair and Chuck's conversation after the polo match. "But you're Chuck Bass" "I'm not Chuck Bass without you" SQUEEEE!!!
Weirdest (Cute) Moment: Chuck as a waiter, roleplaying with Blair. It made me cringe at first, but it's cute.
Favourite Quote:
Vanessa: "I'm sure Blair and Chuck will be there, if the murder-suicide I've predicted hasn't happened yet." (Can't believe it's from Vanessa, but I had to laugh really hard at this)

Current Mood: Tired, but happy
