These are the "facts" (and I use this term loosely as nothing ever happens as predicted):
Last night, TV columnist Kristin from E! posted this:
Do not under any circumstances read this item if you love Gossip Girl and you don't want to be spoiled for a huge/major/giant tragic plot twist that's coming toward the end of the season.
No one is getting killed off, but what does happen is nearly as bad as a character death. Still want to know? Really? OK, but don't say we didn't warn you...
Chuck (Ed Westwick) and Blair (Leighton Meester) are breaking up.
If you lurk on the right message boards, you've already heard this awful news, but I can tell you now that the rumors are true, confirmed and, well, killing me.
My sources at the CW aren't even trying to make me feel better about this horrible twist. Insiders tell me, "It's a bad, bad breakup." Ugh!
Apparently, after almost a full season of near bliss between Upper East Side soul mates Chuck Bass and Blair Waldorf, when the happy romantic scenes are finally snatched away from us, the culprit will be Chuck.
I'm told Chuck does "something horrible," and that everyone is going hate him for it. (Oh, Charles, you were on your way to being the paterfamilias of Gossip Girl's little gang, and now this! Betrayal and disappointment at every turn!)
Jack Bass (Desmond Harrington) is also implicated in the end of Chair, but of course, we'd expect nothing less from the likes of that villain.
No word yet on how long this relationshipocalypse will last, but apparently it begins unfolding in either episode 17 ("Inglourious Bassterds") or episode 18 ("The Unblairable Lightness of Being"), both of which are set to air in mid-April.
Let the weeping and rending of garments begin. (I'll start. Whaaaaa!!) Hit the comments with your thoughts on this terrible turn of events.

And the next day, her frenemy Ausiello over at EW confirmed in his "Ask Ausiello":
The rumors are true: Chuck and Blair will hit a significant (and potentially irreparable) rough patch at the end of the season.

I guess, I'll have to start with some weeping: WHYYYYY!
WHYYYYYYYYY!
Okay, enough.
Not yet: WHYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!
Okay, now I'm okay. No seriously, I'm actually pretty calm which surprises even me as they are one of my favourite current on-screen couple. But that's mainly because I kinda expected something like this and I don't the break-up will last. Let's see what I wrote in August in my predictions
Chuck and Blair will be together for at least 12 episodes, struggling with trust issues Chuck’s philandering and Blair’s bitchy side. They will probably split up mid-season for some time and get back together. I can’t predict the ending of season 3, but I hope they will be together.

Well, I was right. (Side note: I also predicted a couple at college. PSYCHIC!) And that's the main reason I'm pretty calm. And I'm actually of the opinion that this might be a good thing: Their best scenes are when they are apart (Point and case: The end of season 2, episodes 6,7,8 in season 2. Basically most of season 1). Recently, they have been happy, which is cool too, but they're so dramatic when they're apart. And now we know they love each other and I'm a firm believer in "Love conquers all". So, I guess this is going to be heart-breaking and awesome at the same time. They're going to get back together eventually, anyway.
The only thing that really pisses me off: The writers promised they would keep them together. But now the ratings are going down and they probably thought: Well, what were we doing right last season? Chuck and Blair drama. And they're actually right; they're awesome.
So, partly sad and shocked, partly excited and can't wait for the new episodes.
Gossip Girl is back March 8th.
Current Mood: Shocked
